In 2015 Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania will become a part of the common European Union (EU) energy market due to new gas and electricity supply channels.

This will take place through the pipeline Baltic Connector, linking Estonia and Finland, as well as through new power supply channels between Latvia and Estonia, reports Äripäev, Baltic News Network reported.

Estonia could receive financial support from the EU for the construction of these projects. However, it is expected the EU will not allocate funds to the nuclear power plant construction.

The EU energy market needs to consolidate by 2014. ‘This means new connections in gas and electricity supply between Lithuania and Poland have to be created by that time. Also a gas pipeline between Estonia and Finland is currently under discussion,’ points out Einari Kisel, the Vice Chancellor of the Estonian Ministry of Economic Affairs.
