The country’s top energy goals were discussed in Vilnius on Tuesday by senior Cabinet members, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported.

The Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Audronius Azubalis visited the new Energy Security centre (ESC) situated in Vilnius, where together with National Defense and Energy Ministers Rasa Jukneviciene and Arvydas Sekmokas discussed the prospects of inter-institutional cooperation for implementation of Lithuanian national energy security goals.

“The ministers gave positive evaluation of the progress made since establishment of the center and stressed support to the ESC desire to gain the status of the NATO Centre of Excellence and contribute to strengthening the Alliance’s abilities in the energy security field,” the ministry wrote in a press release.

The ESC was established under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Jan. 14.

The main function of the centre are to participate together with Ministries of Defense, Science and Education and other state agencies and institutions in the implementation of state policy on energy security and international cooperation.

The ESC aims to play an active role in the international public sphere, and to contribute to international energy security strengthening initiatives. The acting director of the centre is Audrius Bruzga.
