April 30 –May 7, Vice Minister of National Defence Indrė Pociūtė – Levickienė with delegation will pay a visit to the United States. Member of the Seimas Saulius Pečeliūnas will also be in the delegation.

The visit is conducted with an intention to familiarise with the model of cooperation between the Pennsylvania National Guard and employers and legislation regulating the process with a prospect of applying the experience in Lithuania.

At the US Department of Defence Lithuanian delegation will meet with assistants on reserve matters of the Advisor to the Secretary of Defence Jessica Wright and David McGinnis. Gen Maj J. Wright as the Adjutant General of the Pennsylvania National Guard made a significant personal contribution to developing cooperation between the Pennsylvania National Guard and Lithuanian Armed Forces.

During the visit Lithuanian Vice Minister and delegation will meet the Acting Adjutant General of the Pennsylvania National Guard Maj Gen A Wesley E. Craig.

Ministry of National Defence and other agencies of National Defence System have been cooperating successfully with the US Pennsylvania National Guard in developing National Defence System across a variety of sectors for 20 years. Cooperation takes place also on the matters of activities in Afghanistan, exercise, logistics, water purification, NCO training, regulation of legal status of volunteers, and other points.

The closest equivalent to the Pennsylvania National Guard in the National Defence System is National Defence Volunteer Force. Both institutions face related issues of personnel recruitment, agreement of volunteers’ commitments to the service and civil employer, and corresponding legal, financial and social securities to the military and their employers.

Delegation of Vice Minister of the Ministry of National Defence includes representatives of the Department of Law of MoND, Civil Resistance Centre under MoND, and National Defence Volunteer Forces.
