The Baltic States will buy only safe nuclear generated energy from the third countries; Lithuanian Prime Minister Andrius Kubilius said referring to Belarus and Kaliningrad, who plans to build their own nuclear plants.

‘It will be possible to apply such restrictions linking them with electricity that is generated in the third countries in an unsafe manner. In our opinion, the nuclear power plant projects being newly developed both in Kaliningrad and in Belarus are not being developed in line with the international nuclear safety conventions. Such restrictions could also be applied if a third country fails to comply with the international climate change conventions, or when we have to protect the energy generation capacities being built on our market against unfair competition, when we have to safeguard our energy independence’, the Prime Minister said to the Lithuanian public ratio Lietuvos radijas on 26 April.
