Lithuania regards Russia’s decision of 18 October to remove the Perevi checkpoint in Georgia, as progress and as a confirmation that the Geneva International Discussions remain the best process to achieve peace.
“I trust that there will be further progress and that the EU-brokered Six Point Agreement of 12 August 2008 will be fully implemented. As the future Chair-in-Office of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), I will seek to strengthen the OSCE efforts to solve the conflict and the humanitarian situation caused by it, and to further expand the OSCE projects in the area of conflict. I expect that the forthcoming OSCE Summit in Astana will lead to substantial progress in finding an acceptable solution, so that the OSCE representation would be re-established on the territory of Georgia,” Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Audronius Ažubalis said on 19 October.

In 2011, Lithuania will chair the OSCE and the Special Representative on Protracted Conflicts of the OSCE Chair-in-Office will participate in the Geneva International Discussions.
