community what is community

On 18 April in Vilnius, during a meeting with NATO Parliamentary Assembly (PA) President Karl Lamers and NATO PA Secretary General David Hobbs Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Audronius Ažubalis drew their attention to nuclear power projects carried out near the outer boundary of NATO not complying with international safety standards.

“Projects of unsafe nuclear power, implemented at the borders of NATO, represent a direct threat to the security of the Alliance, so this issue of vital importance to the international community should cause concern to the entire Alliance,” Minister A.Ažubalis said.

He also shared his thoughts about last week’s informal NATO Foreign Ministers meeting in Berlin.

At the Foreign Ministers meeting in German capital on 14-15 April, NATO operations in Afghanistan, NATO partnership policy and the situation in Libya were discussed, meetings with EU High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy Catherine Ashton, NATO-Georgia and NATO-Ukraine Commissions, NATO-Russia Council meetings took place.

Minister A. Azubalis told the heads of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly about a meeting of the Group of Friends of Georgia that was initiated by Lithuania, where the prospect of Georgia’s NATO membership and reform progress in this country were discussed. The Minister expressed support for the territorial integrity of Georgia and implemented reforms.

“NATO is the main forum for dialogue on Euro-Atlantic security, where security issues important to the world and the region are discussed. Lithuania, the Embassy of which in Tbilisi is currently the NATO Contact Point Embassy in Georgia, fully supports Georgia’s aspirations for NATO membership and attempts to accelerate this process through concrete actions,” Minister A.Ažubalis said.
