community what is community

Ten years ago, the tragedy of September 11 in the U.S. shook the entire world and mobilized transatlantic allies and all the people of good will of the world to fight against international terrorism, Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Audronius Ažubalis stressed when speaking at the concert, commemorating the victims of terrorism in Vilnius.
“I dare say this fateful day brought the Lithuanian and American people even closer together. We have a vast community of fellow countrymen in America. Moreover, we shall never forget the invaluable support of this country for the re-establishment of our statehood and for regaining the Independence of Lithuania,” the Minister said during the commemoration of September 11 at the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, where the Oratorio “Via Crucis” by Pavel Łukaszewski was performed in honour of the victims of terrorism.

According to A.Ažubalis, although during the last ten years a lot was done to protect the society from one of the greatest threats and many of the organizers of September 11, including the leader of al-Qaeda himself, were punished, the fight against international terrorism is still not over.

“On this day we have to remember not only the innocent victims of terrorism, but also those who risked their lives to help the victims and who perform their duty every day in Iraq and Afghanistan led by a noble purpose – to make sure that such tragedies would never happen again in the future,” the Minister said.

The International Project of Sacred Music and Charity “Pax et Bonum” (Peace and Goodness) began with the Oratorio “Via Crucis”. The Ambassador of the United States to Lithuania Anne Derse also spoke at the commemoration.
